Damiano Benzoni (Cantù – Italy, 1985) is a sports writer for the local desk of the Italian daily Il Giorno – covering football, rugby and waterpolo – and is a contributor to the web-magazine East Journal, for which he talks about politics in Romania and Moldova. Apart from this he carries on a number of other activities related to journalism and sports research. Graduated in Political Science with a mark of 110 out of 110 at the Università degli Studi in Milan, he lived for six months in Bucharest, where he carried out part of the research for his final dissertation about Romania’s democratic transition and EU accession. In the past he has published articles on the Italian daily Avvenire, on the website of the geopolitics magazine Limes and on the monthly sports magazine Rugby!, and has contributed to the founding of sports websites such as Rugby Union, Sport Vintage and Pianeta Sport. He has published an e-book with mini-biographies of sportsmen for Sport Vintage, titled Epitaffi Sportivi I (Sporting Epitaphs I). Former rugby player (lock and back rower), he speaks English fluently and also speaks Romanian.
